Anyone have any favourites when it comes to Italian reds? I've enjoyed everything I've picked up recently, but I don't know how long the streak will run for!

Suggestions please (If you have a "situation" in mine for them, please feel free to elaborate!)

also lot cheaper than what you were prepared to pay, it's not plonk.
Barolo
Anything from Vinceremos or Vintage Roots organic wines
Casillero Del Diablo 2011 from Tesco quite good if you let it breathe a bit before drinking - and a shade under £7 a bottle. I'd better withdraw this as, upon closer examination,it is actually Chilean! (weli, not chucking it down the sink now I've opened it - cheers!
, with a nice Chianti and some fava beans.Licks lips.
Try Nero d'Avola Sicilia about £8 to £10 a bottle. It was on special offer at Tesco for about £6 a bottle earlier but now they are out of stock. I, and my guests enjoyed it, it must be available elsewhere. Other than that most reds from Venezia are a pleasant drink.
I've just seen your list of scenarios for the wine - I have just what you need.
Il Papavero! (The Poppy)
I drink it with normal meals but it is also delightful on it's own, perfect for your
barbecue day.
I haven't seen it in the shops but I get a crate every 3 mnths from Laithwates around £70. It's their best selling wine of all time.
As one journalist once quoted "If all table wines were this good, no one would ever leave the table. Fruity rich style, dry and rounded.
Barolo is great but, as you say, expensive.
Try the Pietro Disarti Nebbiolo d'Alba.
Experts reckon it's the "best value classic red to come out of Piedmont".
You should be able to pick it up for around £10 a bottle.
"Italian Red Wine Recommendations"

Yes, I recommend you steer well clear of it and go for a decent new world Shiraz or Cabernet Shiraz instead. Italian wine is simply too unreliable to have any of it recommended. Yes you may stumble across a half decent bottle now and then but seven or eight times out of ten you will be disappointed.
Try Valpolicella Ripasso - "Ripasso is made in the Amarone style but at a fraction of the cost , by passing new wine through barrels to which lees of Amarone have been added. Rich-flavoured and satisfying." It's usually around £9 a bottle and worth trying
