Anyone have any favourites when it comes to Italian reds? I've enjoyed everything I've picked up recently, but I don't know how long the streak will run for!

Suggestions please (If you have a "situation" in mine for them, please feel free to elaborate!)

Barolo

Ah, while I am sure it's good - and hopefully steer me away from a crap bottle - I don't think my wallet stretches to those kinds of price tags :)

Any particular bottle your favourite?
Question Author
Oh, sorry, I'm looking at cases and thinking they're bottles - pardon me :)
Marzemino, a cracking red, used to drink this when i was on holiday in Lake Garda, you can now buy it in Sainsbury's. I was truly amazed when i found some here, because it must be a fairly recent addition to their stocks. It was recommended by the hotel Maitre D, and i can say that i probably polished off a bottle of an evening, squiffy but very happy.
Barolo doesn't have to be expensive, do a shop comparison.
Amarone
good choice, one of my favourites.
you won't be disappointed or totally out of pocket, i confess i don't drink much these days but this is a lovely wine.

For wine plebs like me, Valpolicella
well you can ditch that and try my recommendation, i don't have shares in the company in case you are wondering, however i really think this is so lovely, i bought a bottle for a friend and he is a bit of a connoisseur and gave it a thumbs up.

Thanks :) other recommendations are welcome!

I will try the Marzemino and Barolo.
Mazemino, currently on offer in Sainsbury's for 4.49p, a bargain.
let me think for a moment... I have a wonderful wine in mind, but it's not Italian, but French, will let you know..
Montepulciano - various qualities but usually always good. Aldi have a nice everyday one for about £3.99
My hubby likes a nice Chianti with Italian food
the one i mentioned beats that hands down, give it a try and you will see.
The French one is La Vieille Ferme, excellent red, not too cheap these days, but worth it.
right Ed, do you like them light or intense, berryish or dark and more musty.....

then what's your price max...

what food if you are eating and drinking?
Question Author
"right Ed, do you like them light or intense, berryish or dark and more musty....."

Depends what I'm doing! Price maximum would be £20, Ideally it would be around the £10-15 mark however.

Here's some scenarios:

1. Summer BBQ planned in May, need an "all day drinker" which will serve into the evening around a camp fire.

2. Something to have with peasant food

3. One for a Sunday evening while doing paperwork.

:)
the first one i mentioned.

I steer away from wine under about £7 since I read this: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Food-and-Drink/Question1030438-2.html#answer-6026367
