How do you wash soft fruit like raspberries, blackberries, blueberries etc? Do you just rinse under water? How do you wash fruit in general that you'd normally eat with skin like apples, pears etc., and veg for that matter.

Given the recent fears over contaminated frozen veg and watching Alice Beer earlier on This Morning advising everyone to wash all fruit and veg before use it got me thinking that maybe water isn't enough.

Someone once told me that they wash berries in a bicarb and water solution.

I don't unless it looks dirty. I do sometimes rinse soft fruit if its got bits of straw mixed with it.
I use the antibacterial washing up liquid for ALL fruit and veg, even things like avocados as when you put a knife through it you could be taking hardul and potentially lethal bacteria into the insides you’re going to eat.
oh that's gross using washing up liquid....sorry that's really nauseating
Christ I'm a mucky cow it seems, I don't wash anything fruit and veg wise unless it's hanging in soil or bird poo, in fact I'll pick apples and plums right off the tree and eat them :/ mind you I never get food poisoning though.
Woofgang I wash the washing up liquid off before consuming.
Always wash with cold running water, especially loose supermarket purchases. Anything pre-packed will have already been washed.
It’s grosser to think that my fruits or veg may still have traces and the stench of animal or human manure on it to be honest.
Do not trust the washing of prepacked fruit and veg. Hold under running water.
Who told you that cold running water kills bacteria, ecoli or animal and human excrement? That’s wrong information and potentially dangerous.
I don't even wash my plates with detergent if they can be scalded clean, do you have any idea what that nasty chemical stuff does to your body? Eww, I'll take my chances with the soil contamination, if you have a good immune system there's nothing to wrry about tbh, as I said I'm never ill, mind you I used to eat worms as little kid so a bit of soil is the last of my troubles :/
I don't wash anything except new potatoes if they have soil on them.
minkyme What is your solution?
For those that don’t wash fruit n veg or think cold water is sufficient a 15 foot rectal tapeworm is no joke.

Rather extreme. Perhaps you would notice and use other measures
Like others here, I never bother washing fruit and veg.

However for 'official' answers, see the Food Standard Agency website

Sivam. Fairy Antibacterial washing liquid. Kills all bacteria, pesticides, gets rid of was, human animal excrement, tapeworms, bugs and is right by the sink and is only a pound, further more I’m happy to serve my fruit and veg to kids, pregnant women, the elderly, the sick and would bet that if I had a catering business my customers and clients would be happy with my hygiene methods over a competetor who used just cold water or didn’t was everything.
I would never wash fresh food in boiling water or use washing up liquid. And I am still here to tel
I never wash them unless they are visibly dirty. I must have eaten many pounds of blackberries that grow on public land straight from the bush in my lifetime, strawberries and tomatoes from my garden, too. Never had food poisoning or a worm of any kind
With so many *not* washing fruit and veg, you'd think the incidence of ecoli and tapeworms would be through the roof.
