reheating mulled wine

The mince pies say they can't be reheated, but what about mulled wine?

Also, what are cloves? (mentioned in a recipe for mulled wine) Cloves of what? Garlic?!

Cloves are the dried flower buds of the tropical tree 'Syzgium Aromaticum' Used whole or ground. Look for them on the shelves with spices etc. Use whole cloves in mulled wine, but be careful they can be overpowering if overdone.
Cloves of garlic are totally different.
Mulled wine can be re-heated but it won't taste the same. You can keep it warm for ages in a slow cooker.
And cloves look like this.
They're called 'cloves' from the Latin clavus meaning 'nail', 'cos thats what they resemble.
For garlic, 'cloves' don't resemble nails. Instead it's from the word 'cleave', meaning 'to split', (though 'cleave' itself also comes from clavus).
and whatever you do, don't try and eat one... they are very very strong in taste!!

Clove oil is used as a household anaesthetic for toothache, and it numbs whatever it comes into contact with!
