It will be 8 weeks tomorrow since I quit smoking and all is going well except I am almost constantly feeling hungry. I know people tend to eat more when they quit but I am actually feeling hungry (not just eating for the sake of it) and it's so hard not to eat. I've tried gum but I just don't like it much. Is it normal to actually be feeling hungry all the time and what can I do about it, other then eating?

perfectly normal - just stock up with healthy snacks and keep busy - it does take time but the best thing is to find something to occupy your mind then you don't think about eating. Walk, do charity work, dig the garden whatever - just do something other than think about food. good luck - ps, know just how you feel - walked marathons when I was quitting but best thing I ever, ever did so don't give up!!!
Drink water??? I don;t smoke but am too on a diet and I do find that water takes the edge of any pangs.... sorry no other suggestions but will keep an eye on this post for my own use!

I sucked boiled sweets slowly so that I never ate many. Also drinking water helps. You'r over the worst well done.
you'll find that fruit helps, eat a banana or an apple (both won't hurt).Keep it up It's worth it in the end. Ron.

I went through the same when I gave up. As carmalee says, keep busy and have plenty of snacks i.e. fruit, nuts etc. I'd have the odd piece of wholemeal toast with low fat spread, just to keep the pangs away.

And well done for getting this far, keep it up!
I suck lollys. It takes an hour to remove wrapper & another hour to suck
congrats milly, I agree with the others, some lollies or boiled sweets are good for keeping your mouth busy, well done you!
Well done. I found myself hungry all the time, so put on a stone. Still better than smoking though :-)

The cravings do go x
When I quit (before stupidly starting again) I used to get a strong venti Starbucks and sipped it slowly through the morning and would get another at lunch sometimes - I have never minded drinking "hot drinks" gone cold though.

So I now have more of a coffee addiction...as well...!

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions. I've been drinking so much tea and water I spend half my life in the toilet. lol.

I'm not really much of a fruit/nut eater but I think I will give the boiled sweets thing a try. I did try a few days of eating Xtra Stong Mints but the other side effects of those (especially when I ended up eating them like a pack of sweets) hadn't occured to me.

Milly, I haven't really got any tips for you but well done for getting so far - keep it up - I am now coming up to 11 years off the coffin nails and wish i'd done it sooner.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty chuffed with myself although I must admit it feels longer then 8 weeks. I still enjoy standing in the garden with the bf's mum when she is having a fag and getting the whiff of it but I tried one of those fake cigarettes a week or so back and it was amazing how much it felt like smoking a real cigarette so it was odd that I hated it so much. That gave me some encouragement.
Another thing you can do which I found useful is when you feel like eating something go and brush your teeth. You won't feel like popping something into your mouth while it feels so clean and fresh and it'll get rid of all those nicotine stains at the same time. Keep it up. Just remember ONE HURTS! so don't try.
