I need to make some breadcrumbs for dinner tonight. If I put the slices of bread in a low oven how long is it likely to take for them to dry out enough? Also the only sliced bread I have in the house is Polish and it's a lot heavier than usual sliced bread, would this be okay to use?

Whiz up the bread in a prosessor, lay out on a baking tray - low oven - for as long as it takes - I never time it just check every 10 mins or so.
You can actually used fresh crumbs without drying - I do when I'm rushed.

Thanks angie, though my whizzer is so rubbish I would have to whizz them when they were pretty dry or it just clogs up.

hi looooby and thanks for that. I've looked in Morrisons, Tescos and a couple of small supermarkets nearby before and couldn't find any, I don't go to Asda much but will definitely pick some up next time I'm passing :-)
Why are you drying them out?
Question Author
That's what the recipe said to do mercia, it just didnt say how long for.
Safya - low heat 110c then turn until you think they are "old", if they are just dried out - will make lovely breadcrumbs

Thanks Tony :-)
no probs
Why all the hassle? just toast the bread lightly then put into whizzer (didn't know that was what they're called...) no need to use oven.

It never seems to work when I do that cochinelle probably because my whizzer is rubbish - no idea what they are really called, I just say whizzer for my rubbish one and zizzer for my mates because hers is a good one and makes a better noise :-)
