Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.

One evening a 14 year old grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events.
The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the computer age, and just things in general..

The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:
' television
' penicillin
' polio shots
' frozen foods
' Xerox
' contact lenses
' the pill

There were no:
' credit cards
' laser beams or
' ball-point pens

Man had not invented:
' pantyhose
' air conditioners
' dishwashers
' clothes dryers
' man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandfather and I got married first, .. .... ... and then lived together..
Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir".
And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir."

We were before gay-rights, computer- dating, dual careers, daycare centres, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.
We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.
Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege...
Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.
Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan' on it, it was junk
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam....

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.
You could spend a tanner on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.
You could buy a new Ford Coupe for £600, . .. . but who could afford one?
Too bad, because petrol was ten bob a gallon.

In my day:
' "grass" was mowed,
' "coke" was a cold drink,
' "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
' "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
' "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
' "chip" meant a piece of wood,
' "hardware" was found in a hardware store and
' "software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.
No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap. or from the archives
How old do you think I am?
I bet you have this old lady in mind....you are in for a shock!
Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.
Are you ready ?????

This woman would be only 59 years old.

Fascinating cut and paste from some American article from the late 1980's....
Thank god for progress.
jemisa.....LOL....... interesting.

Might that be why the present generation cannot get to grips with some of the "wrinklies" posts and opinions on AB?

Television was well before 1951. There were broadcasts as early as 1936.
and frozen foods in 1923 with the patent in 1929 (Birdseye). I will not go looking at all the information here but the two I looked at randomly are not correct.
My Mum will be 59 this year....I shall have to ask her.

On second thoughts....nar.
all that needs changing is the last line

"This woman would be only 85 years old."
instant coffee has been on the market for 101years, grandma is a little more than 59 if it hasn't been heard of.

Penicillin was in mass production by 1945
...and polio shots were first given in the twenties.
Joseph Lister I think (he who also invented the carbolic acid spray thingy and surgical gloves) was esperiementing with penicillin ages before Alexander whats-his-face was making his discovery in 1928... so yeah, granny's a bit older than 59 by my reckoning.
Sorry Dave, didn't see your answer!
Software was first used in about 1958, so that one works at least :)
For this to be correct, grandma would have been born 1951 or 1952

First TV Broadcast 1925
Penicillin 1928
Birdseye Frozen foods 1938
Contact Lenses 1887
Ball point pens 1945
Air conditioning 1902
Dishwasher 1887
Tumble drier 1887

Now, maybe coming into common use or commercially available is different
Looks like we were all prepping answers at the same time. Even so, interesting variation of dates!
I wondered about the "tanner" bit. Everything else is Yankiefied. If you are gonna cut paste and alter bits, then do it properly.
