Having watched Masterchef the Professionals, where they used the sous vide method of cooking. It got me thinking as I have a vacuum sealer whether I could seal a whole fresh salmon (on special offer at the moment in Morrisons) and cook it in a dishwasher, has anyone tried this and can give any tips. I have Googled it and there are loads of how to guides, but wanted personal experience, if poss. As even though it is on offer, it is still a lot of money to waste if it all goes wrong!

I tried this years ago, and it turned out to be a disaster on a epic scale.

I thought I had wrapped the fish in enough layers of clingfilm but it sort-of exploded all over the inside of the dishwasher. I had to run the fecking thing 4 times, with just detergent in it, to get rid of the fishy smell. Even then, I swear that my wineglasses tasted very faintly of something other than Merlot for months afterwards.

My advice is NOT to do it. Why bother anyway....don't you have a cooker in your kitchen ?

Whatever next...toast by Dyson ?
Oh no, the Dyson should only be used for making breadcrumbs.
I wonder who thought of this in the first place; I mean it's not your usual way of cooking anything at all, is it!!!!
Yes, indeed. It does work. So do jacket potatoes - they come out clea and half cooked all ready to crisp up in the oven!
fliptheswitch, try Googling it
Sorry to intrude on the question, Jules001...

theprof, may I just wish yourself and your family a good Christmas and a happy new year, not seen you about for a while so will take this opportunity (apologies again Jules)... Hope you're keeping well.
People have been cooking in strange ways/places for a long time. Probably not so easy now that access to the engine hot parts is more restricted. Media URL: http://www.howcast.com/videos/1225-How-To-Cook-on-Your-Car-Engine
Description:
ChuckFickens, thank you very much indeed for your Christmas and New Year Wishes. I'm very grateful.

My workload seems to have increased over the last year or so which is not what I had intended. As a result, I've found it difficult to find the time to post on AB.

I sincerely hope that 2012 will be better than 2011 as I lost my dad and MrsProf lost her mother during the year. It's been very traumatic to say the least.

Still onwards and upwards as they say and MrsProf and I sincerely wish you and your family a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year. Look after yourself ChuckFickens
Sorry to be bah humbug and all, but I cannot see the point in such a faff on. All the work involved in prepping the dishwasher for it, and then the cost of running it while the salmon cooks just seems batty to me?? I'm not an expert fish cook myself, so maybe I should just pipe up!
