where can 2 muslim women go on holiday?

Me and a mate are thinking of going on holiday for a week or so but cant think where to go. We are both married and muslim so don't want any partying resorts or anywhere renowned for being 'pick up' places. We aren't bothered about beaches and arent too bothered about the weather though i dont mean the north pole, so long as its anywhere between nice and scorching we arent fussy. We would like somewhere nice with things to see, places to visit etc. We would prefer somewhere that has a good muslim population as that would be more relaxing for both of us. Iraq and Iran are out as I've plans in the pipeline to visit them in the near future and would rather have my first visit there with my husband.

I've put this here rather than in travel cos from what im told hardly anyone looks in there lol

hi SJ, we arent bothered how far but don't want to spend extortionate amounts on the flights (Our purse is a bit tight as Iran and Iraq are going to cost us quite a bit for fares, though thankfully everything else will be free) we both prefer city, think we would get too bored in the countryside :)

Oman is becoming popular as a holiday destination. Sweden (in summer) would be OK weatherwise. There`s quite a large Iranian population there. For something off the beaten track, I have seen Usbekistan advertised in the Middle East as a holiday destination.

Pix, having been to Marrakesh, I'd suggest there - plenty of mosques and suitable locations for you - no beach - you can do what you want to do and wear what you want to.

Tunisia also - another suitably Muslim country but with a lot of history (Roman plus stuff out in the desert).

If you can afford it, go to Dubai - that meets most people's agendas. I have Muslim friends living and working out there and they say that the fact that everything stops for Friday prayers etc, well suits their lifestyles.

How about Jordan - lots to see includoding Petra which must be one of the most magical sights anywhere.

hi boxy, I quite fancy Marrakesh I know a few people who have been there and really enjoyed it. From your description thats exactly what we are looking for, though we aren't bothered that you can wear what you want as we are both hijabi's ;) Me and my fella have decided we might hit Dubai and Jordan (thanks beckers) while we are over there :)

ok that's understandable - Cyprus is pretty neutral, beautiful and plenty to see - staying clear of the resorts - Northern Portugal may be shortly offering some real bargains in their Poussada's (some luxury inns ) - with the economy and the Euro crashing

And there is always Tunisia.....

I wouldn't mind going to cyprus, Ive a couple of uncles who spent time there in the army and loved it and go visit all the time, it sounds really lovely.

Let us know where you decide! and yes, I'd assumed that you were hijabis that's what I meant - no hassle for being hijabi in Morocco, even though it's still got a very French colonial flavour, most people met spoke French and English as well as Arabic.
