just making up a marinade and i snapped the pestle (solid marble but about 30 years old) kicking myself as i love my pestle and mortar. However, i cant seem to find somewhere that sells pestles on its own :( really annoyed as it belonged to a dear friend before me and i dont want to get rid as it has loads of memories attached!

dont think my hubby would go for that he has a thing for chucking 'clutter' :( plus i could do with new weighing scales so its a toss up between the two!
Well, have to admit, I'm with hubby on the clutter thing! I got my porcelain one from ebay - not expensive.
bad luck, firewatch

Antique shops here you go......you could pick up one...fun however if you don't

hmmm im going to be searching for a while! have seen some cheap ones in asda, but like my white one!
There's one on ebay but it says 11 inches which sound rather long.
You should be able to find a strong glue of some sort.--- See if you can find someone to drill a hole in each broken piece then insert rod with strong epoxy resin glue. Hope this helps
mrbumblebees idea would work but it may never be as strong as it was... Glue it back as suggested and maybe keep it on display getting a new one to use everyday

american company but do a lot of different sizes and can make to order too
Whilst I can't personally recommend it having not bought any myself, but one of the well known freeview shopping channels were pushing a sort of "wonder, glues everything almost" type glue just a day or so ago. You could try their website to see if it is still available and likely to mend your pestle.

Mind you I'm amazed marble would just snap. Never mind thirty years old, it's probably milions of years old isn't it ? Must have had a flaw I guess.
There are specialist marble workshops around that may be able to assist you with a repair or replacement.
Just a really mad thought do you have a place that makes gravestones near you they might help.. either making you a new one or having some way of fixing it after all gravestones sometimes need fixing
that's an "undertaking" for them, rowan.....

seriously it's an option though, firewatch. Can't remember where you are living, firewatch, but an approach to your local cathedral and find out who/where their stonemasons are - they may be able to replicate one for you...out of white marble, particularly if you give them the original.
