are you dicing it before cooking? It should not take that long.
have you got a pressure cooker
Diced, in a pressure cooker - 7 minutes.
Cut it smallish and steam it... Only takes us 40odd mins to be honest xx

I have one of them kitchen wizard things that dice it up exactly the same size which is quite small. It still takes forever. I put a light under it at 16.30 and it's still bubbling away and still not that tender. I have a slow cooker (iv tried it in that) but not a pressure cooker smurf
To be clear Rosie, you have small cubes of swede in water that has been brought to a boil and you've been simmering it since 16.30 and it's still not tender?

Is this the case?

That is exactly right eccles cake. This happens everytime i cook swede and the gas is on under the pan.
Are you sure it's a swede? They do look very similar to cannonballs. Not the same colour of course, but definitely the same shape.
Well then the answer is simple, you are trying to boil a bowling ball, how the hell you've managed to peel and cube it is beyond me but it is all I can think of!!!

Seriously it should take no longer than boiling a spud. I'm intrigued, as you clearly are!
Assuming it is a swede, are you sure the ones you buy are ripe enough? They can be like cannonballs if unripe but I still find it odd that it is not cooked after 2 hours.
Question Author
Oh its definately swede. It needs a cannoball under it
Are you using water in the pan?
I would have thought after two hours you should have something that closely resembles soup!

What else is there to use lol. Seriously, it is still bubbling away but Mr Rosie is on his way home so i will be trying to mash it in the next 10 minutes. Wish me luck
Exactly my thoughts Chuck.

Just thought, im going to try buying a swede from a different supermarket rather than Morrisons. It might have a lot to do with it
Hi,rosiew,I buy my swedes from Morrisons so I don't think that's the problem.
If all else fails rosiew, buy the swede already cubed. Ive done this before as swede can be a real so and so to cut up small..That way it is all cut up to the same size and it takes no time at all. Good luck!
when I do carrot and swede mash..I cube both...and into boiling water for about 20 minutes...DONE...then mash???
I cannot fathom the root of your problem??
