Using stale bread
Instead of the traditional stodgy bread pudding, is it possible to make a concoction using yeast?

Stodgy bread pudding?
I love it! My mother used to make it and it was delicious.
As a substitute, bread and butter pudding comes a good second.

How about cutting the crusts from the slices, spread with a little melted butter and then cut into fairly large squares; add a little seasoned salt, pepper, sage and/or thyme and shake well in a plastic baggy. Spread evenly on a bake sheet and place in a previously warmed oven at 300 degrees (F) for about 20 minutes or until crisply dried... making your own croutons. Store in a paper bag until needed. Add your own flavorings as imagination allows...
Excellent idea, but I really wanted a kind of cake rather than a savoury.
As it happens as there were no responses by 10 am 30 April I mixed all together with rougly the usual ingredients for a traditional bread pudding and stirred in half a sachet of yeast.
It is very slowly proving now, but as there is no heat indoors anywhere today it's about to go for a while in my car parked outside .
Is that a first!

It turned out pretty well, somewhat light but maybe could have benefitted from more yeast or les sugar.
Unfortunately cipod04, my Housing Association ban the feeding of birds for fear of rats.
We are supposed to be managed by a benevolent organisation but they are in fact BIG BUSINESS, dictatorial and where our interests come last.
For fear of being sued and under the guise of Health and safety, all personal items have had to be removed from the communal parts of all blocks - and that includes pictures on walls and doormats.
