We've spent a lot of money today out and about so I thought I'd cook something cheap and cheerful for tea.....dinner, whatever.

So, I've made a Spaggy Bol from scratch. Cheap enough. However, we needed a £6.99 bottle of Chianti to go with it. Bumped up the cost of the meal a bit. How daft is that?

you didnt 'need' it
Was the Chianti for the ragu?
Question Author
No, we didn't need it. You're right.
Not daft Tilly, you must have wanted it or you wouldn't have bought it !
who cares, you will enjoy it though!!x

No ummmm, the chianti was for drinking, with the meal.
And you've upgraded the whole meal. Have cheap and cheerful tomorrow, beans on toast?
But you need red wine for the ragu? How do you make yours?
Question Author
Thanks, Prudie. An upgrade feels much less daft. It won't be beans on toast though. last time I ate beans, I thought I was having some kind of seziure!
Oh yes, that was you wasn't it, sorry I forgot.
Question Author
Oh, I see ummmm. I don't put wine in my ragu.
Try a cheap Merlot next time...under £4 in some supermarket. They go really well with Italian food.
Question Author
Thanks, anngel. I'll look out for that. Our meal was lovely despite not being cheap. Oh well it was bank holiday.
I would use white cider
Question Author
White cider with spaggy bol? Which would be cheapest?
lol at it being daft..you didnt have to buy it.... look on the positive side... you could have made a more expensive meal and had no wine, so a cheap meal and wine probably adds up to the same
Question Author
Thank you I feel better now. Happy birthday, by the way.
aw thanks x
Strangely enough, the authentic Italian way to make ragu is with white wine and not red. Honestly.
