Not sure they would stand the boiling hot jam being poured it , why bother it is easy to get glass jars .

Because glass is heavy and costs more to send by any carrier. We are talking large quantities.
agree with eddie, you need glass, if you pour boiling jam into plastics they will distort, and you'll have jam all over the place.

Why do you have to take postage into account, I don't understand?
I think you have to finish of by heating the jars in the oven before sealing so plastic would melt.
