Our greenhouse tomatoes have not started to ripen yet and we are going away for six weeks in about 10 days time. I'm tempted to try putting some in a box or a drawer to see if they will ripen while we're away. I don't mind the neighbours taking some but we've had a bad gardening year. We lost the potatoes to blight and the courgettes flowered beautifully but not many fruits. The only crop that has come good for us is the kidney beans which I am picking and freezing every day. So I feel cheated out of the tomatoes which is a favourite of mine. What do you think?

Well I am a gardener and it has been a very bad year and it is hard work to grow produce so if I were you I would definitely pick your tomatoes and allow them to ripen indoors...and hopefully you will have a lovely lot of red toms to come home to! Sue

Put a ripening Banana (or several) near the green fruits ,the Bananas give off a ripening hormone/gas ,Sorry can't remember the name, the blacker the Bananas go the better. Sounds mad but it works.
