Bottle Of Wine To Say Thank You......

Made the stupid mistake of picking up a bottle of "M&S" recommended Sauvignon Blanc (WITH MY GLOVES ON) to give to my cousin's husband to say thanks for doing a job on our house....not realising it's a plastic bottle........£7.99 it was too!

Is it really "off" to give someone a gift of some wine in a plastic bottle rather than a glass one, would you guys think it off if you received one of these?

Firstly what a stupid idea tp put ANY wine in a plastic container (imho), and secondly what a waste of £7.99 if I have to go buy another bottle made of glass.....nae made of money!!!!

I'm still struggling to get to grips with screw caps and plastic corks, let alone a plastic bottle! I wouldn't take the wine back though, I'd emphasize that it is more environmentally friendly, or something along the lines

Alwaysconfused, thanks! I can't take it back anyway, don't have time to! Just thought it may seem a little "cheap" giving someone a pastic bottle of wine...As I say it has a nice label, and was £7.99 AFTER ALL, just don't know how I feel giving someone it as a gift?!

I'm sure I saw this on the tv. Someone was pitching plastic wine bottles on Dragons Den, for picnics (though not sure that's relevant at this time of year!)

Anyway, no, it would not bother me in the slightest... I wouldn't be consuming the packaging :-)

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Plastic can be recycled just as easily as glass. On occasions we have bought wine in tetrapacks - it's still wine, they won't mind. It doesn't have to be glass!

hi - I would not appreciate a bottle of wine in a plastic bottle as a gift- nor would I like to receive a bottle of wine with a screw top. I'm by no means a wine buff but my reasoning is that if you offer a bottle of wine as a GIFT then it should be a) a good bottle that the person might hesitate to buy for themselves b) you have put some thought into the choosing of the wine. Having said that -the deed is done - give him the bottle, make a joke of the fact its in plastic-urg! plastic -makes me shudder -surely it must affect the taste of the wine?

Wouldn't bother me one iota. My daughter brings me quite a bit of wine when she comes home and most is in PET bottles.

I don't think I would give a plastic bottle of wine as a gift. I might be happy to drink the contents myself, but as a gift I think it seems a bit tacky and cheap, (not that it was as you stated, just what it would 'seem' to me). I don't think I'd like to receive a plastic bottle of wine as a gift either regardless of contents... But I strongly suspect I'm being a snob :c)

of course I wouldn't that would be rude -I'd be grateful -there are some nice wines with screw tops -I personally just would not give one as a gift -maybe that says more about me than the wine.

No probs -I've even had wine out of a cardboard carton -and it was nice -just would not give it as a gift -FWIW -I buy most of my Wine from ALDI and its fantastic value -and sometimes ......with screw tops......;-)

No, not tried it... but for me it's not about the taste of the wine, it's about the presentation (because it's a gift), so I guess the best way I can liken it is if I were to give someone codial (??) randomly as a christmas present, and the options were same drink in a plastic or glass bottle, I would opt for glass because I think it looks nicer and is more opulent than plastic which as a gift I think is nicer. In terms of just getting a plastic bottle randomly because someone has brought a bottle over for dinner at my house, that wouldn't actually bother me. It's the gift part that would make me not want to give or receive plastic over glass.

(In other news, my dads suprise went brilliantly. He cried a little bit... then hit us).
