I have a friend coming for lunch on Tuesday who loves my soup. I have now exhausted my repertoire and need new ideas. So far I have done:
Smoked haddock chowder
Vegetable
Mushroom
Onion
Broccoli & stilton
Cauliflower & cheese
Sweet potato & coconut
Leek & potato
Carrot & coriander
Crab & sweetcorn
Parsnip & ginger

There are probably others I can't think of right now.
NOTHING too spicy as a suggestion please

how about going for one of the more unusual meats you find in butchers and markets? ..... ostrich for example
well mrs O if you have to buy the ingredents it'll be the latter ,but as every good soupmaker knows you can make a soup from what ever you have to hand ! Good luck and have a lovely lunch.

Oh lovely pea and ham - I haven't made that in years.

Thank you all for your suggestions and kind words.

I will let you know on Tuesday what I made and how it went down with my friend. xxxx
In the Convent Garden soup book there is a Mrs Kendalls lentil soup. It is really simple, like me, but lovely!
in fact, the Kale and pea can use any green leafy stuff e..g watercress/rocket/spinach etc. it's really lovely and very simple.
"Can you still buy oxtails?" yes you can, they tend to be a little expensive these days

Thanks again to all of you
What about a cool gazpacho.
No offence but apple soup sounds disgusting, i'm sick to the backteeth with these poncey chefs mixing weird combinations in a bid to be hip and "out there" and we the consumer them think we're daring or trendy to our peers because we've taken the plunge with a dodgy food mix.

I say stick the classics and one thing i noticed that the soup ideas seem to be mainly vegetarian, where's all the meat?

If your "Friend" is a man you're trying to woo then i don't think you can go wrong with a meat, potato and chilli soup but go easy on the garlic if you expect some smooching!

Good luck!

lol, my friend is a female pensioner and I have no intention of having a smooch with her!
Good old mulligatawny yum
I make a hearty tomato & pasta soup with a base of fried, onion, bacon, green peppers and garlic. I add passata and stock a handful of soup pasta and finish with basil.

A nice seasonal one is celeriac and apple. Jerusalem artichokes are about now and make a lovely soup finished with a drizzle of walnut or hazelnut oil.
Just made leek, parsnip and carrot soup. First time so will give the verdict later.
