Mr M has just been for a walk in the West Sussex countryside, near Chichester and saw a crop growing that he wasn't able to identify. Any one any ideas pse from the following description; about 12 ins high, thick green stalk, alternate upright green leaves that were thick and leathery looking, with a gap on the stalk between the leaf bunches and they are rugby ball shaped! They were planted a good couple of feet apart which to me indicates that they are going to grow much bigger. Sorry the description is a bit odd but I'm working from a photo he took on his mobile from about 50 yards distance!! I'm presuming it's edible hence the posting in food and drink!

Leaves are much thicker than peas or beans -grown those so know what they look like - these are almost like a succulant.

Sounds like corn on the cob to me which is grown everywhere round here (Dorset).

There's a maze at Cairnie Fruit Farm in Fife made of maize. Could it be something like that? Harvested at the end of the season for cattle food then replanted in the different shape the next year. Great fun.

Def not maize (corn on the cob) Prudie - we spent 5 years staring at that when we lived in rural France - we used to nick it from the field opposite to eat - the natives thought we were mad cos they only use it for animal feed!

YOu must have a lead from the camera to the computer so you can download your photos - or email it to yourself from the phone and download it from the email?

They are broad bean plants - sorry to those whose suggested beans - I was thinking of green beans - long thin ones - that's why I said they weren't those!
