My local Waitrose has a glut of strawberries that they are knocking out for pennies.

Apart from jam what could be done with them, any ideas?

I'm not really into cakes and was looking for alternative preservation methods, thanks though for the suggestion QoM.

Vodka is made and the ice cream has just finished churning. I'll make the purée for the leather tomorrow as it needs such a long time to dry out I'll do it tomorrow.

I still have some strawberries left and some cream and some egg whites left over from the custard so I can see an Eton Mess being knocked up shortly!
Pop one in a pimms
If you've got a lot - have a lot of pimms :-))
drop them in Californian white wine, gin or vodka, most white alcohol will enhance the spirits and keep them.
I can eat a punnet of strawberries in one sitting. Take off the green bit, open mouth, pop in strawberry. Continue until punnet is empty. Simple.
Bet Yilly doesn't share either lol.
Yes I do and there are two people on here who can vouch for that!

I'd love to share strawberry with........................?
How do you make fruit leather?
Here you go puzzled - http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/how_to_make_fruit_leather/

I would like to point out that whilst I suggested it, I haven't made it (saw it on Pinterest - spend far too much time on there).

Mmmmmmmm !
Can recommend Queenie's cake recipe - she made one last week. Didn't last long! Hoping she might bake another one soon, though I must get out and get some berries to make strawberry jam if Waitrose are selling them cheaply
^Should have said 'a strawberry'. Just the one.
It's ok Yilly, I knew what you mean't.
Granary bread, unsalted butter, Philly cheese, sliced strawberries and lots of crushed black pepper.

The vodka is steeping, the ice cream has been sampled (yum!) and the leather is being saved for tomorrow as it it needs umpteen hours of drying time in the oven.

A wee taste of the vodka has been reserved for grasscarp once it has fully matured.

And there's a wee taste of vodka for sloppy too!
1 1/2 pounds strawberries
5 cups sugar
1/2 tsp unsalted butter
5 TBL Balsamic Vinegar

Boil for 40 minutes and then boil process in sanitized preserve jars for 10 minutes.
