I consider a lot of those different shapes/sizes. What is the definition of a roll ?

I can only think, OG, that the word comes from the circular rolling action the baker makes on a piece of dough when making them. Dictionaries tend to suggest 'a small loaf of bread', which doesn't really tell you much.

I picture rolls as the finger roll type. Cobs are hard crusty spherical types. Baps are similar but softer. Etc. Etc. Etc.
