A while ago we decided that once a week we should have food from different countries, well it went by the wayside after about 4 months but the kids have decided they'd like to start it up again.

I need some new ideas, unusualish. Anyone got any for me?

Thanks :)

Having just spent the best part of two weeks in Italy, I would advise NOT to go Italian! ;) Although you could do a nice Antipasta, then pasta then a secondi (meat and a side dish).

Moroccan baked chicken with chickpeas, lemon and rice (a la Delia)?
Hamster....they eat them in Peru I think !
Hae a wee Scottish night.

Shed load of haggis washed down with whisky....... ;)
Question Author
I like the Morocco idea, hamsters not so much :)

Scottish night I'm saving for myself, washed down with Drambuie ;)
could you do an indian or a chinese banquet?
No, not hamster, murraymints, but guinea pig. In Ecuador this food is called 'cui', which the locals claim is the squeal it makes. It is served everywhere there, but for the full experience of Ecuadorian bonne bouche you must also serve shrimps. The two make for a boring experience after the first few days.

Steady on now BM, banquets? I'll be cooking all day :)

Fred, the shrimps sound fine but not the guinea pigs :(

They've just inquired about Hungarian Goulash, never cooked one so I'll have out hunt out a recipe.
Jambalaya?
Scottish, starter. scotch broth, main. mince potato haggis neeps skirlie. pudding. apple pie, ice cream/custard.
Question Author
Ooh Jambalaya, I like that

Anne, what's skirlie pudding?
You could do a Middle Eastern meze - moutabel or hoummos, kebbeh, tabbouleh and flatbreads with a Mid East salad on the side which is usually diced, marinated cucumber and chunky tomato.

That sound right up their street 237.

Thanks all :)
Iceland - the country not the supermarket.

Smoked Puffin
Rotted Shark
Dolphin Carpaccio

I am not jöking - I was offered all of the above at various times ...
More seriously - how about an Irish Menu

Bacon & Cabbage
Seafood Chowder
Boxty
Champ
Black Pudding

etc :+)
Question Author
Dave, we have Irish regularly, I'm married to a Paddywak :)

Hmmmm, might given my son the rotted shark though, he likes a bit of seafood. :)
Balut :-)

Boak!
Spanish - chicken and chorizo paella? Or if you like seafood then paella! And have this once a month rather than once a week - you won't run out of options so quickly then!
I used to do this withmy kids some years ago, they were picky eaters so I made a meal from a different part of the world and they promised to eat it.It really broadened their tastes. I started out by looking through my diary at special days, Bastille day- French-, Independence day-American etc and then went through cookery books, after 3 months it got a bit hard going but they still like chicken kievs and any pasta dish.
