Morning!

Do any of you try and balance out the overly rich Christmas food with something fresh - just to avoid that sense of your blood becoming mostly butter and some kind of nut-and-dried-fruit mixture?

I'm fancying this:

Chicory, Walnut and Pomegranate Salad with Walnut and Clementine Dressing:

What do you do for a sense of "balance"?

And, okay, if that's boring, here's a sausage roll:

i'll be eating the usual----- sausages :-)

well mainly fruit, salads and meat and lots of gym activity :-)

i do have a ridiculous amount of chocolate that will have to be eaten at some point though
eat fish, because quite frankly i don't much care for Christmas fare, childhood spent eating over cooked meats, and soggy veg put paid to it, though if it's a carvery in a nice restaurant with plenty of choice i don't mind the odd roast type dinner. I can cook it, but choose not to.
I don't like Christmas pudding / cake, mince pies, nuts, sweets, or chocolate.
Not keen on turkey I prefer it cold in sandwiches.
I very seldom eat any sweet things anyway so Christmas food is far from my favourite.
i actually like sausage rolls, and nibbles like pork pie, but try and do it in moderation, a nice ice cream or pudding, perhaps some decent cheese for afters.
'balance' is all well and good but Michel Roux Jnr's artery closing mash potato recipe - a 50/50 mix of spuds and butter - is a winner.
Sprouts! Sprouts with everything. :)
Must go to Specsavers - I thought the Ed said Christmas GOAT...
That salad looks revolting, sorry! I'll stick to the sausage rolls ta.

Snags, you need to get to Pitt Cue and try their bone marrow mash :)
I don't do balance at Christmas. I just dilute everything in my system with liberal applications of wine and beer :)

Just Googled that... definitely worth a visit.
Mmmmm looks good Ed. We tend to add celery and carrot sticks along with grapes to the cheese board and that's always a welcome balance. Traditional satsumas work well of course but when it all goes wrong, its best to wash it all down with some more booze and worry about it tomorrow.
We go through an obscene amount of sausage rolls in this house, my son eats them in place of pretty much everything. The joys of having a son with asperger's syndrome who mistrusts all foods on principle :)
Thanks for the sausage roll, yum. We have traditional Christmas dinner but on Christamas Eve and Boxing Day we have fairly simple meals with lots of salad, it's not the food that bothers me, it's the alcahol.
