Aldi

After reading all the hype about Aldi before Christmas, Mrs BT and I ventured in there.
We spoke to a customer who was denuding the shelves of their supply of filet steak. Curiously we asked him about its quality, he said he'd never tasted better for the price and let us have two pieces put of his trolly. We also bought two pieces of sirloin.
Well, the filet was as good as the other customer had said. Tonight we enjoyed the sirloin. I think they are the best steaks I've ever had from a supermarket.
Total cost of each meal, with trimmings, probably under £6, we would have happily paid around £20 in a restaurant for the same, probably considerably more in London.
Mrs BT looks after me well!

Two brothers set up Aldi, had a falling-out and split the company into Aldi North and Aldi South...and they are still operating in the same way to this day as separate companies.
Lidl is a completely different company and has never been connected with Aldi (think Tesco and Sainsbury).

When I lived in Bristol there was an Aldi quite near and so I used it every week. Unfortunately there is not one in Nailsea and Bristol is too far away so I have to used what we have, which is Tesco, Waitrose and Iceland. Iceland is the best and the cheapest but they have not got the same range of goods as it is a smaller shop.
I'm told their icecream is excellent but I haven't tried it yet. Cant remember if they have just one type but I'll get some the next time I'm there.
Their frozen apple strudle is amazing and only £1. You think it cant be that good considering its size (it is big) and price but it is better than some of the best.

Have to admit I was drawn in by their advertising this Xmas.
Turkey crown was fabulous, as was their beef and lamb.
The animals loved the Aldi cat and dog food, veggies were ok, and lasted longer than usual.
Voddie was cheaper.
The Magnum looky-likies were brilliant.
Their bread is AWFUL.
I will shop there more often now. Another plus point was the very wide aisles.
Good job Aldi.

When I was in Germany a few years ago I was told that lidle and aldi were brothers who inherited the family business when their father died, but they fell out over something or other, so they split the company equally and went their separate ways, the two stores are certainly very similar so it could be a true story, and I use both of them, with never a complaint.
