Advocaat - Does It Keep?
12 Answers
Have a half-full bottle of advocaat in the cupboard which OH says should be thrown out as it will have gone off since it contains eggs. I thought that with the high alcohol content (17.5%) it wouldn't go off. There's no 'best before' or 'use by' date on it though it could be so old that putting such dates on wasn't necessary then! Would do you think?

An unopened bottle will keep for quite a while.
However, once it's been opened .... well, take a chance if you want. I'd guess at a shelf life of a few months max, assuming it has been stored in a cool place.
You've really answered your own question, it contains eggs .... the fact that it's mixed with alcohol is irrelevant, the eggs will eventually curdle.

Well Ive recently finished off a bottle we started in Christmas 2012, it lived in a cupboard. I'd never even considered that it might go off and as far as I was concerned it tasted as it should and I'm still alive to tell the tale. I'm pretty sure when I was a kid we had a bottle that was almost an heirloom that just provided a couple of snowballs once a year at Christmas.
