A visitor told me the other day that she'd always been told to wash fruit in hot water, to remove germs. Hot water would surely affect the fruit, I'd never heard of that before.
I never wash fruit, unless it's visibly grubby. IMO, we are far too "protected" from a few germs these days, my grandma used to say that you have to eat four pounds of dirt in your lifetime (but preferably not all at once).
I'm the same as you boxy, only wash it if I can see stuff on it, applies to any fruit and veg. I never peel or wash carrots and never wash lettuce either.
Perhaps they re thinking of waxed citrus fruit and the hot water will wash away the waxy film? But even then unless I'm using the zest I wouldn't bother.
Yes. Always. Think on this. My friend told me when walking through a market she saw a dog weeing over a box of beautiful grapes. You don't know where your fruit has been or who's touched before you get it.
Yes, i wash all fruit, apples pears, plums etc.
have to wash lettuce , cabbage, greens. Cant bear the thought of where they have been on the journey to the shops.
