If you saw this on a menu - 'Freshly filled Ciabatta’s served with a mixed Salad garnish & a small portion of Chip Shop Chips' - would you expect a whole ciabatta or half a ciabatta.

I'd expect more than one as it's plural.
An whole one, if were an half one I would expect the menu to state it would be an half one.

The plural refers to the different ones available.
Ok, a whole one then.
How much was it?
That apostrophe does not mean more than one.
I'll be honest, I don't know if there is a standard size for a Ciabatta - I'm sure I have seen largeish loaves as well as rolls.
Not plural as apostrophe indicates singular, and is totally wrong on the menu.
Well technically ciabatta's is not plural . Anyway I'd expect a whole one but couldn't eat it, they're massive aren't they?
Ok ok. Jeez. ;-)
Surely 'Chip Shop Chips' should be presented in slices of white 'Mother's Pride' with a side serving of tomato ketchup and mushy peas.
To my mind 'filled' means that you have a top-half and a bottom-half with something in the middle.......and as they are about 5 inches long, I'd expect a whole one.
Ah thanks Jack, I wasn't sure but thought I had seen much larger ones.

If that is the size then yes, a whole one.
I think the problem with size is as mamya says, ciabattas vary. When we get them from Tesco they're nearly the size of a small baguette - but yes filled suggests to me also a top and bottom.
You and I are on the same wavelength, SirO.
I would expect a whole one,
but as someone has already said they come in many sizes, I buy Icelands own half baked ciabatta's,
You get two packs of four for £1.
They are about the size of a cobble stone and we have them of a weekend, hot out of the oven with egg and bacon in them.
They come highly reccomended, just ask Mr S and Baby S. Lol
No, you're right that there are differing lengths, Mamya.
It's just that it is more usual for the 5 inchers to be offered when it comes to 'filled rolls'.

I'm sure Sherrard will let us know what it was that she actually received, instead of what she expected to receive. :o)
I'm sure so, yes.

Sorry, was having my tea! The ones we got had a top and bottom but only half of an actual ciabatta (and a small one at that). We all just sat and looked at them in disbelief, it was about 2" worth.
Could you see that it had been cut in half then, sherr ?.
