They were selling 12.5kg sacks of spuds for £2-00 at the weekend. How do they do it for this price. They were originally £4-00, which is cheap.

They might not be making any profit on the deal. It could either be a 'loss leader' or simply the result of overstocking (requiring them to shift the spuds fairly quickly before they're past their best).

I've seen Asda in Stowmarket (which clearly must have massively overstocked) selling those big bags of spuds for 10p just to clear them!
Sometimes you just have to shift the stock to make way for more/newer lines.
I saw on the news the other day that it was a great year for growing potatoes last year (all over the world) so there is now a glut of them.

I guess they have to almost give them away to get rid of them
I wish someone would tell Waitrose that there's a glut of potatoes this year!
