I've just tried this and it was lush...I couldn't ever successfully poach an egg before. Here's the tip I followed ;
MICROWAVED POACHED EGGS!!! Yes you heard right. Here's how....
1. Fill a mug 1/3 full with cold water.
2. Crack a free range egg carefully into the water being careful not to break the yolk.
3. Microwave on high for 1 minute.
4. Remove from the microwave and let it sit in the water for 20 seconds so the egg continues to set.
5. Lift your egg out of the water with a spoon. If you want it cooked more pop it back in the microwave for another 10 seconds.
6. Pop it on a piece of toast and enjoy your super easy poached egg!
kyles - got a good result cos like that couldn't get it right - however mine needed just a little over one minute - maybe a minute half to get the runny yolk - good tip.
You are supposed to prick the yoke before putting in the microwave and that is supposed to stop it exploding. I used to have a microwave poacher and it did work most of the time (but not always). I binned it, along with the poaching pouches and went back to just dropping the egg in a saucepan of boiling water.
My friend in Australia used to do boiled eggs in the microwave. We used to have them every morning. You wrap the egg in tin foil and put it in a mug of water so that it is submerged. Then microwave.

I'll certainly try that. I love poached eggs and fail almost every time. I've added vinegar, followed every instruction in lots of books (including Delia's) and mostly they don't work. Roll on Sunday!
Mine always seem to work out for some reason. The only problem I find is egg white is hard to get off the pan. I crack my eggs into a ramekin first anyway so cracking into a bag is no difference.
Thanks for all your varied answers....all worthy of a try. Now i've found a tried and tested which suits me i'm going to stick with it, like we all do at the end of the day. Happy poaching everyone !
