I've just tried this and it was lush...I couldn't ever successfully poach an egg before. Here's the tip I followed ;
MICROWAVED POACHED EGGS!!! Yes you heard right. Here's how....
1. Fill a mug 1/3 full with cold water.
2. Crack a free range egg carefully into the water being careful not to break the yolk.
3. Microwave on high for 1 minute.
4. Remove from the microwave and let it sit in the water for 20 seconds so the egg continues to set.
5. Lift your egg out of the water with a spoon. If you want it cooked more pop it back in the microwave for another 10 seconds.
6. Pop it on a piece of toast and enjoy your super easy poached egg!
kyles - got a good result cos like that couldn't get it right - however mine needed just a little over one minute - maybe a minute half to get the runny yolk - good tip.
I always have trouble with poached eggs so a bought a plastic egg poacher specifically made for the m/wave. Followed instructions to the letter - there was a horrible noise and when I opened the door the egg had exploded!! Took me ages to clear the mess up. I went back to using my Mum's old metal poacher that you use on the hob. I'll give this a try though because I love poached eggs.
margo the best way of cleaning your microwave - put in a jug of cold water with fairy liquid and microwave = mind your times - may 6 mins may do the job but keep an eye on it - microwave turns into new one. good luck for any more splashed eggs - I too have had disaster - let's try this one. JjCon
Ummmm - I've tried that, swirling water, vinegar etc, just end up with white all over the place! Think I must have every gadget on the market, including the pouches but nothing seems to work, apart from Mum's old fashioned tin one. Reckon I've just got a mental block.
Line a cup with cling foil. Crack egg in to it, screw the open ends of the clingfilm to seal it in a ball shape. Drop in simmering water for around 5 minutes depending on temperature and size of egg. Remove and undo clingfilm.
Bought a new type of microwave egg poacher out of the Range. Fill each section one third full of water, put on lid and microwave for 1 minute. Drop an egg in each side, replace lid and microwave for 45 seconds. Perfect.
My plastic "poacher" works fine. Doesn't take long though. Not enough experience to ensure a runny yolk yet. I know 45 seconds on high is more than enough (I suppose it depends on the microwave's wattage).
If you want to poach an egg in the microwave, put it in whatever you want to poach it in then prick the yolk. Steam can build up with the yolk sac as the egg cooks and, as MargoTester has learned, BABOOOOOOM!
