Gewurztraminer, From Lidl !
9 Answers
I have just bought my second bottle of Gewurztraminer from Lidl, at £3:99 !
Its a proper Gewurztraminer, ie from Alsace, not South Africa, and at £3:99 its tremendous value for money. Just the right level of spiciness and not too dry. I can recommend it to anyone ! ( DTC ...are you listening ! )
I don't know what I did before I discovered Lidl, I really don't !

Gewurz means spice in German and the traminer is a grape variety. Its quite different from most other white wines, mainly because of the spicy flavour. Goes wonderfully with spicy food. Some people think that the wine tastes of lychees.
Alsace is a mostly German speaking region of France. It has tripped back and forth over the border over the years but is now most certainly French !
Gewurztraminer never comes out of Alsace in a tanker, and is always bottled there. There are some small estate wines but most of the wine is produced in different vineyards and cooperatives and blended by the negociants.
Wonderful food, architecture and wine ! I recommend a visit !

We have just come back from our weekly shop in Lidl. We bought 12 bottles of a South African Chenin Blanc at € 2,89 a bottle. Can't beat that ! And it is a quite nice stay at home wine.Mr. Sam got a few bottles of decent reds too, at about € 3,89. Their Deluxe Range is coming in now for the Christmas season, really delicious things.
Khandro...it would be nice to have a drink together ! I think I have had that Kiwi Gewurztraminer before...Tesco used to sell something similar.
By the way, what ever happened to Peter Dominic ? They used to sell a marvelous Claret, called something like La Cour Pavillion.
Samuraisan...where do you do your shop ?
Lidl have been selling a smashing Pinotage for ages now, at about £3:99 a bottle. Its from South Africa and its 14.5 % !
Pays to let it breath a goodish bit though !
