Do you have a family tradition for this meal or is it anything for ease and simplicity before the following days excesses?
We have something quick, simple and easy...pizza and salad this year...before we clear everything away, put the Christmas CD on and get stuck into a few drinks while peeling the veg and preparing the turkey etc. for Christmas Dinner.

I'm quite fancying a chinky chuckaway on the eve, havn't had one for a while and it'll fill the children before they go a wassailing.
Thats it shoota. Thanks. I found a wokink link 1/2 hour ago from an e-mail I sent my niece in Canada two weeks ago.

My pleasure. Love to hear your opinion in your own time.
Here in the western U.S., our tradition that's been going on for years, but no one has a clue as to how it got started consists of steamed Alaskan King Crab legs, large shrimp (is that a contradiction?) mussels, clams and clam chowder, all followed by Mrs. C.'s world renown (at least our world) cream cheese cake with Amaretto frosting and Starbuck's Christmas Spice Flat White coffee's all 'round...
Clanad -we used to have king crab legs on New Years Eve -they were very expensive in Canada -around $60 a kilo which does not go very far but gorgeous
Nothing that requires much prep as the next day we will spend hours in the kitchen.
No tradition as such
A glass or three of dry sherry. Smoked salmon, and scrambled eggs with a tiny drop of white truffle oil in them, warm blinis. Get the prep done whilst listening to my selection of Christmas songs in iTunes. Bottle of red to hand for emergencies (for me). Prosecco bucks fizz and San Miguel in fridge for visitors.
