What's the most grim Christmas Day that you have ever had? I remember when I left home and was house sharing with three colleagues who had all gone home for Christmas because their families were not too far away. My family was a 4 hour drive away and I was working on Christmas Eve and Boxing day. I spent Chrismas day cleaning the house and my Christmas dinner was Heinz Ravioli on toast.
I did sleep over one Christmas Eve once at a new boyfriends house. Him upstairs, me downstairs (70s) .. I was feeling so bereft on Christmas day, I snook off in the early hours back too my family.
The first Christmas I spent at my in-laws (closely followed by every other Christmas we spent there) completely joyless, dinner not cooked by my mam. On the plus side, I tried sloe gin for the first time and was ratted by early evening.
Voltage - that's terrible. I was talking to a co worker a few years ago and he said that when is son was young, he was driving him to a Christmas party and his car skidded on ice and his son was killed. That was 17 years ago and he has never got over it. Christmas doesn't exist as far as he is concerned and he chooses to work over Christmas every yeat.
So sad to read that volty, the constant memory must be so hard to live with. Best wishes for happier memories of xmas. Thanx for all your lovely jokes that bring us joy x
Grimest Christmas day? With my MIL being treated as an unpaid maid and taxi driver for all she decided to invite without being asked - I went to bed that night and cried!!
I suppose I shouldn't be so flippant. The grimest Christms Day was when my sister's husband was in the Royal London and the so called powers that be said "It'OK, you don't have cancer. Two weeks later they said "Oh sorry, we got that wrong and you are going to die. He was dead by the end of Feb.
