No theme, but want something fabulous. What's the best costume you've ever seen? (I'm a twenty-something female in dire need of inspiration)

Cheetara from Thundercats was quite fun to be if you want to look a bit sexy... generally I like to look horrendous at Fancy dress parties so I recommend Freddy Mercury or Jimmy Saville.. great conversation starters! (being Jesus tends to freak people out)
The best one I ever saw was The Mummy (poor bloke forgot about going to the loo though and so had to spend half an hour unwrapping and then wrapping up his bandages every time he wanted to go - good job he could only drink through a straw!)
As for a costume for you it depends whether you want to buy something, hire something or make it yourself. A punk is a good one to make yourself (bin bag dress, spikey coloured hair, ripped fishnet tights, safety pins etc) or a Roman (white sheet as a toga). I once bought a cat mask and dressed all in black with a tail. If you 'google' fancy dress you should get some inspiration.

A friend of mine once dressed up as a packet of marlboros - not very pc with anti-smoking being such a hot topic right now. It was a really good costume though, basically a giant ciggy box with room for her arms and legs - her head was a ciggy filter sticking out of the open packet. I don't recall how she went the loo though.....
For something easy yet scary, how about going as the Hunchback of Notre Dame? (It's always my last-minute fancy dress outfit.) Fill a rucksack with some towels or old clothes, and the put it on before getting dressed. Put an oversized shirt of some sort over it, whether an Army surplus shirt, or huge pyjama top. Add a fright wig and some hideous make-up (I used to put green food coloring on my face), and you're all set.
DillyGent that's brilliant! Haha!
I am queen of fancy dress but always need some inspiration to start me off. I have a Halloween themed one coming up and I'm determined tp find an alternative to the red catsuit I've been ordered to wear!

My sister went as a jelly fish... pink umbrella with ribbons and sparkles attached to the inner spokes, and a 'coordinating' outfit, she wore white hair wig and white dress, pink tights and pink shoes, all depends on your choice of brolly. Obviously the umbrella can be ditched as soon as you get indoors.
