oh crumbs ...........whats the worst that could happen..?
Long palette knife to break the seal underneath and then as many gentle fingers as possible around the base to lift/slide it.  As for stacking............!!!??

i would go with tony to get the off the board, for the stacking i would suggest you warm some raspberry or apricot jam (raspberry for sponge, apricot for fruit) in the microwave for about 20 seconds if that, then 'paint' the cake underneath and this should cause a slightly sticky bond to ensure the cake sticks quite well.

Try to make sure the cakes going on top are not too heavy for the bottom or you will get a gradually widening mess on the bottom.  If you want to rectify this, then cut the board when you separate it from the cake and cut it to the size of the cake that will be sitting on it. Then buy some dowling from a hardware store and place 3 pieces in the bottom cake - cut to the depth of the cake - The board supporting the above cake will sit on top of this. repeat in above layers. This will also help when transporting the cake as you can move it in individual layers rather than lifting the lot at once. But I do understand that Markies cakes are not as substantial as home made cakes - Or specialist cakes from Bakers etc - therefore not too heavy to carry. I don't know if it's for a wedding or otherwise, but have a lovely day. Cheers
