How long can I keep a fresh pork joint in the fridge, before I cook it.

Would four days be ok? I bought it yesterday and really don't want to cook it before Tuesday.

Is there a sell by date on it Tilly, that should give you a guide?
Why don't you freeze it Tilly.
Supermarkets keep fresh meet on chilled shelves so it should be ok in the fridge
Was just about to say that Barsel - if in doubt freeze it :-)
Question Author
No sell buy date, Margo. It's from the butchers.

I could freeze it, Barsel but it means I have to put the fast freeze on for ages and leave it on for ages, one the pork is put in. I am just being frugal. :-) (mean)
Question Author
Yes, they do, don't they Danny.

Any idea of the shelf life of a piece of pork?
I'd keep it in a good cold fridge for four days, if it's in plastic wrapping replace with paper.
For goodness' sake it' ll be OK till Tuesdsy
Question Author
It's in a dish covered in foil, Mamya.
Tuesday will be five days, won't it?

I'd better freeze it. Out into the cold to turn on the fast freeze!
Question Author
MrBlear, don't take on so. :-)
Why do you have to turn the fast freeze on Tilly? If your freezer is already on, it will be fine to put the piece of pork in.
Noooooo!
Why put it on fast freeze Tilly? I thought you only had to do that if you were putting lots of new items in.
Question Author
Thanks, Danny. That's very helpful.
Question Author
Is that so, Margo? I thought it had to go on if you put fresh food in there. I must re-read the instructions. Thank you.
If you de-frost your freezer and then want to put some things in it straight away, this is when you have to put it on fast freeze.
I agree with mrblear. - Ee shouldn't allow ourselves to be intimidated by the bully tactics of commercial interests which is what Sellby/Useby etc is all about.

Canary, I am not being intimidated by dates, 'cus there's no date on it. :-)

It's now in the freezer with the fast freeze turned off.

Thank you all for your help.
