I usually am very pleased with Jamie Oliver's recipes, but this one was awful. Tray bake Maryland Chicken. Mr. Sam said it was dreadful, which makes me annoyed because I was only trying to make something different. He could have said " very nice dear, but don't cook it again " I am *** off with him now. Really *** off.

I am sure that we had it served with a banana fritter and either pineapple or peach. It was about 40 years ago and at the time is was exciting cuisine.

Sounds lovely to me, I just had a peek at the recipe.
Mind you, one of our favourite things is kebab skewers threaded with quarters of banana wrapped in a slice of bacon, along with bits of chicken, peppers, onions and sausage..lots of people think that's weird.
I used to have trout with fried banana. It went surprisingly well.

No , it was from one of his recipe books. To tell you a secret, I made another for Tuesday night. Different recipe
As O_G said...it's a members recipe...and one of the most awful things I've ever read. Blehhh!
Chicken Maryland is chicken pieces dredged in seasoned flour and pan fried, served with a creamy gravy. It can also be naked in the oven. Try that...you'll like it more than this
I thought if was this one...but realised it hasn't got any banana.

Sorry, what is a member's recipe ?
It's a recipe contributed by a member of the forum.
I recall something like this from the sixties, Maryland chicken with bananas, always seemed a horrible combination so I never made it. I could live on bananas were I allowed but can't bear them "in" something, don't get me started on that food of the devil banoffee pie
I sometimes try new recipes as I feel I'm boring people by cooking the same old things all the time. I feel awful if it's not good, as the people I cook for work long hours and deserve a decent meal.
I do hate it when OH complains if it's not good. If he cooks and its not great I still eat it and say it was ok. I'd never complain about food someone has gone to the trouble of cooking for me. Having said that I do hate banana, so stuffing it in chicken doesn't sound great!
Yuk banana in chicken, sorry this sounds revolting.

It is annoying when you spend x amount of time trying to cook something different and everyone turns up their noses at it!!! I would be hacked off too!!

Thanks Clover and Sharon. I have calmed down a bit. My son has just come home, let's see if he will eat it !
It sounds awful. Home-made beefburgers, baked spuds and salads have kept the peace tonight. Phew!
Question Author
Nope, doesn't like it. But more polite than bloody Mr Sam !
I'm a little confused...nothing new there...but are you saying this isn't actually a Jamie Oliver recipe even though it's called Jamie's tray baked Maryland chicken and in one of his recipe books?
That it's in a book seems strange unless it has a section for reader's recipes. Look on the Net and it's a member uploaded recipe you find.
I found it in my copy of Jamie's Dinners...the photo makes it look gorgeous! But those hidden bananas?? Noooo....
Just the thought of it is making me feel sick :(
If you don't like bananas then I can understand the revulsion.
Having bananas with chicken is like having any fruit with meat...turkey and cranberry, pork and apple, lamb and red currant or apricot, beef and..er..
