Most Wanted Albariño 2014 - Denomination De Origen.

This is an excellent example of this Spanish varietal which continues to grow in popularity and is making its way onto more and more restaurant and pub wine lists up and down the country. Fresh and crisp with a juicy mouthfeel, this makes am excellent pairing for flavoursome fish dishes and tapas. Peach and grapefruit flavours mingle on the palate and make this one lip-smackingly delicious white wine.

Available in The Co-op for the normal price of £7.99.

ABV 12.5% / 9.4 units per bottle.

Sounds very scrumptious.
I'm off to m&s shortly to pick up a bottle of Butchers Block, an Argentinian Malbec, recommended to me by the nurse while she was taking blood from me, seems appropriate..

Let me know what it's like, ethandron. Purely for research purposes ;)
I've never found a Spanish white that I like, I might just follow up this recommendation as we have a co-op nearby.
NoM, that's the only reason I buy and consume wine, for research purposes :o)

Eccles, I would steer clear of "white Riojas" and anything that just describes itself as "white." I like to know what grape I'm getting...

Your selfless dedication does you credit, ethandron.

:-)
I think Ethandron is a bit of a lush........
I'm also a great lover of Albarino. Its intense aromas, with scents of almonds, apples, citrus, lime and peaches, Albarino is perfect for seafood dishes, you get a feeling of a bracing breeze with every sip. I even have it with my fish "n" chips, but never with vinegar, as it spoils the aromas.

It's definitely one of the better Spanish varietals, Jude. I'm not mad on Macabeo or Godello.
I shall have a look in my local Co-op for that NoM - sounds good.

This is still my favourite Iberian white though

Very reliable through several vintages - good as a pre-lunch aperitif on a hot day, if you don't fancy the eternal Prosecco.

I tried that recently, S-D, and it was quite nice. The Coop one is the best Ive tried recently though.

I am also a huge fan of Aldi's NZ Pinot Gris x
Yes - the NZ PG is great stuff -and a bargain at well under £6 a bottle

My mum is a devotee too.
On a different tack entirely, this Amarone is amazing for just over a tenner a bottle - they were selling it for well over £16 earlier this year & it was decent value then.

I've got a dozen in my rack and am going to get another case when I get paid - it's already lush and will age beautifully over the next few years.

Question Author
Gosh, Amarone is one of my favourites right now. The process known as "assapamiento" is what makes it so delicious and unique.

This is also an excellent red:

I've had some very 'easy to like' Zin recently - only £5 a bottle in the Ocado May wine event - gluggable was the word most people used :)

Robbery at the current £11.99 though - so I'll wait for the next sale :

I'm sure I tried the M&S one a couple of years back - quite refined for a Zin I seem to remember - but none the worse for that.
Question Author
Their Brazin Lodi Zin is fantastic and worth the £12.99 price tag.
Shall we have a bet, NoM.....on just how many years Dave lets the wine age in his wine rack?.... ;-)
I like wines from the Lodi region - I discovered it through Avery's a good while ago & wines from there seem to match my tastebuds
Question Author
I'd say 0.2 years, Gness ;)

Ditto, S-D. The best Zin I ever had was a bottle of Dancing Bull at the Robin Hood in Droitwich. The ex and I had a puncture and had to wait 2 hours for the RAC to attend, so decided to wait in the pub...
