I got to the back of the food cupboard this morning, as you do on a Bank holiday Monday, and found instant custand, instant semolina and a crumble mix. They are all best before April 2016.

Any reason why we can't use them for apple crumble and custard tonight?

They'll be fine but you made need to bash the packets a bit as they may have solidified.
They are only "best before", not "eat by". They don't go off overnight of the end of the period.
I would leave out the semolina.
Donate it to the harvest festival. It's nearly that time...
As a biologist, I ignore these dates and use common sense depending on the foodstuff
They'll all be perfectly fine.

Yes but it is 4 months OG! Nevertheless I will do as Kacjdaw suggests and use the crumble and custard ,and dump the semolina.
For goodness sake, there's nothing in any of those things that's going to be "off" a few months after the "best before" date.
I didn't mean dump the semolina, I just meant don't use it in an apple crumble!

In the end I was too tired after a long day in the garden, to make the crumble. Instead we ate the semolina with banana and peaches, it was delicious. we'll have crumble and custard late in the week.
I know someone will say it is a different situation but, Sunday I ate a tinned rice pudding that was 3 years out of date. It was fine.
