The other day I sat eating a very healthy salad, whilst my husband sat there tuckung into burgers I had made for him.

They were sweet chilli burgers from Aldi served in large soft buns with lettuce, onion, cucumber, mayonnaise, melted mature cheddar and ketchup.

I seldom eat burgers, especially in bread rolls, as they're simply not my food of choice, but on this occasion I had a serious case of food envy. His Lordship says they were the best burgers he's ever had.

It got me thinking.... What constitutes the perfect burger?

Sounds like you have answered your own question! If your hubby says you make the best burgers, then you do!

The best burgers I've ever had were in a small "Mom & Pop" roadside restaurant in America.

No really, Dave, since its a matter of opinion. The OH said they were the nicest HE'S ever had.

Nicest one I ever had was in Javea, Spain and it had Guacamole on it.

My friend swears the burger he had in Trinidad was the best.
Buffalo burgers from Cam Family Butchers.

Now there's a thought, WBM ...
Mayonnaise? The devil's vomit. The ruination of many a good meal.
They do deliver NM. I have them. They are made in the shop. Well, the workshop at the back of the shop...if that makes sense!
Morning jack. All a matter of taste mate!

Again, a matter of opinion, JD. Homemade mayonnaise is a delight.
Yes indeed, "proper" homemade mayonnaise is wonderful! It's just when it is little more than "salad cream" that it's disgusting.
“What constitutes the perfect burger?”

Fresh meat, salad and bread

Any particular variation, Jahulaye?
Apart from my own homemade burgers... Mission Bay San Diego....can still taste it...
Question Author
That's just an insult to the tastebuds. I wouldn't want caviar on a burger, nor edible gold.
I rarely eat them. I prefer homemade because I usually find the patties of shop bought are a bit on the chunky side which makes it too much effort and too messy to eat (for me)

I base mine on BK because I like the fresh salad theirs are served with, especially with the raw onion. I also like it when the patties are moulded around cheese.

I only really eat burgers in the airport.
For me its a thin patty no bun, with fresh mayo, crunchy lettuce, tomato no seeds and a thin cheese slice.
For himself its a toast burger, large square patty between to crisp slices of toast spread with mayo and mustard, dill pickles, tomato, cheese and bacon.
Question Author
Dill pickles, cheese and bacon are definitely ingredients I'd use.
I also actually love pineapple in a burger
Whilst I'm very partial to cheese, for some reason I cannot get away with it as a topping on other foodstuffs. It seems to kill the taste of the other ingredients. Hence I do not like cheeseburgers or lasagne if topped with a cheese sauce.
Question Author
JD, you could make a topping from either very thick yoghurt or ricotta, blended with eggs.

I just tend to make a homemade cheese sauce for my lasagne.
