Weighing Scales

Is it just me, or is anybody else put out by the lack of weighing scales in the fruit and vegetable areas of some supermarkets.
Sure, stuff is weighed at the checkout, but just for customers to be able to weigh goods themselves, to know weight, and to make price comparisons based on weight.
Would it be so difficult to keep a scales in operation for the customer also.
Today, I asked my supermarket about it, but alas, the manager said he didn't know why there was none for the customer.

And btw - I wouldn't have a clue what 250g of carrots felt like...
Time was you could ask for half a cabbage and the greengrocer would cut one for you.

Never tried asking for 100 gms of fresh Coconut though.
The only recipes that I weigh ingredients for are baking (cakes, biscuits etc) Any other recipes I regard as ideas to be modified according to ingredients to hand and personal preferences.
Since the main variables (when buying in a shop/supermarket) are the price paid and the amount you're getting, I think it's absolutely right that you should be able to find out both values (whether you need them or not).....hence, price labels and scales.

Many items are sold in packets, (often with number of items, and not weight, written on packet). So the only way to compare value, between these, and items sold loosely, is by weight. Major example is trays of tomatoes, often no weight, just number of tomatoes. Well done to those supermarkets that have them for customers, to those that don't....... Bring on the Scales
I shall happily add a vote for scales, even though it doesn't affect me much - I can see the logic.

I shop largely online so either order by number or if there is a drop down weight option, I use that.
