I'm not talking about foods you hate (swede, marmite or curry) or things that make you shudder (octopus, brains or tripe), but rather foods that are utterly tasteless, boring and serve no discernible purpose.
What "pointless" or tasteless foods would you consign to Food Room 101?
For me it would be a toss up between gnocchi and ready salted crisps.
Low-fat anything - if you're worried about the fat content just eat less of it. Ditto "spreads" that pretend to be butter substitutes - there is no substitute for real butter!
I love almost all fish. I love proper raw fish (smoked salmon, gravlax and so on). But sushi just doesn't do it for at all. I've tried a number of varieties in different establishments. All of them, without exception, taste of absolutely nothing whatsoever. It's pointless. It doesn't even fill you up.
Mashed potato would come high on my list of 'pointless foods', unless it's enhanced by the addition of cheese, mustard or whatever. On it's own I simply can't taste it.
I agree with NJ about sushi. Cold rice wrapped in seaweed, that's all it is. I like lettuce, especially if tossed in a vinaigrette. It does have health-giving properties.
Non-supermarket lettuce can be very tasty. I'm not keen on pasta, it's there simply as something to hold the sauce. Spreads like Flora, or as I call it, slime, are high on my pointless list, also ketchup, can't see the point of it.
Thought it was only me Zebo. Can't stand pasta of any description. Any food that needs to be covered in a sauce before you can eat it is a waste of time.
Not worth it though, pixie.....am on the WWF terrorist list for what has been down my gullet but turtle rings take the biscuit - even eaten boaty hedgehog (Chinese relative) - a little peppery and sharp.....
