Frozen Meals

I bought a Tesco ready meal. Did not read the small print, 'not suitable for freezing'. What happens if I eat it? Awful taste , or will it make me ill?

There's nothing wrong with Tesco!!! I shop at Tesco and I'm a fussy eater.

I doubt it'll do you any harm, Goofy, if it's cooked through. It's more likely the texture wouldn't be the same so not as nice.

I often get sweet and sour chicken - frozen -from Wiltshire Farm Foods.Why should Tesco be different?
JJ....they often do great on meal deals. You can get a main, side, pudding and a bottle of wine for £10

I had Tesco's chicken in a leek and wine sauce, trio of cabbage...and cheese cakes. It was really nice.

And I do cook fresh most days but sometimes you don't feel like cooking, or you're too busy.
I think they just put that on chicken labels because chicken has to be defrosted, carefully. As long as you fully defrost it before cooking, it is fine.

Done it myself many, many times. They’re just covering themselves.
I agree with Ummm, Goofy. As long as it is properly heated all the way through yes there might be a texture change but otherwise it'll be fine.

JJ, we cant always all cook meals from fresh. I'm having Tescos pasta and sauce tonight - Mr BM is out and I am still working so ding food it is.

Are you sure it doesn't say "not suitable for heating from frozen"....or, "not suitable for re-freezing" or, something else?
I would doubt that it'd matter much. May not be as tasty/nutritious/firm or something. Eat, drink, be merry.

Definately says not suitable for home freezing. I shall try it tonight. If I never appear on AB again you'll know the reason why!
Frequently eat ready meals from the freezer. 99% of the time I've cooked them myself and frozen them for convenience. Just this once I thought I'd have someone else do the work. Hey ho....
The reason I asked was ....the only sweet and sour chicken meals on Tesco's website both say "suitable for home freezing"!
I've never bought the Sweet & Sour Chicken from Tesco, but used to buy a LOT of their Ready Meals when my Dad was here, as they were fast and convenient, so I didn't have to spend hours cooking, leaving him on his own, which upset him. I always froze them, chicken, beef, lamb, etc and there were instructions for cooking from 'chilled' and 'frozen' on the label. Invest in a magnifying glass for the small print. I use one constantly, now that my eyes are getting worse!
ps ALL the meals I bought were Tesco produce. I buy from them online these days and have it delivered.
Bought a redy meal liver and bacon from Asda had assumed it could be frozen but reading the label it wasn't! Wouldn't have bought it if I had read details properly. Didn't want to chance it but it would probably have ok.... OH said it was 'alright' cooked without freezing but the meal itself not that good just from the look of it....never bought again... You takes your chance I guess.
It'll do you no harm but the texture might not be great.

the chicken must have been previously frozen. If it's only been frozen once then (according to Government guidelines) you can refreeze it one more time

However the problem might be that the chicken was frozen to get it from Thailand to the UK, then defrosted before being cooked but with the ready meal then being frozen again prior to distribution as a chilled meal. In that case freezing the product at home would mean that the chicken was being frozen for a third time, contrary to health guidelines.
I never buy ready made frozen meals. I make, and freeze my own. Today I'm going to make a batch of scotch eggs for freezing.
