Does Anyone Know What This Is About
26 Answers
received an e mail from Google as follows
your personal Google+ is going away on April 2nd.
You have received this e mail because you have a consumer (personal)
Google + account or you manage a Google+ Page.
Does this mean it will wipe out all my e mails, as i have a
G mail account and will i have to find a new e mail address.
has anyone else received one of these long messages.

I got one of those emails too.
It refers to a Google+ personal account.
I opened a google account years ago, but never used it as such. I can't even remember why I opened it, now.
When I clicked on "download and save" on the email, to see what I did actually have in the account, I found you have to log in with your password, so I'll have to try and find my password for it.
I don't think it applies to emails, but to be honest, I haven't a clue, and now that Clarion has suggested it's a scam, I'm a bit worried at having clicked on a link, even though it only led me to a login page.

Looks like its genuine
Looks like its genuine
It says:
"In December 2018 we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low, usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations..............."
Looking back at my emails, I did receive something from Google about changes to the company name etc., but the whole layout of that email was different to this new one.

Google + was Googles attempt to create a social network like Facebook. Very few people took this up. I think the email is just telling you that the service is ending in April. So, if you have uploaded anything to that social network you will probably want to download any photos etc. It won't effect your usual Gmail or Google Drive account though.
Seems I have that e-mail too, on the gmail I never wanted but seemed obliged to have in order to get to the Play Store. Lord only knows why they think that I have a Google+ account. Perhaps they set one up without my knowledge. I wonder what they got out of doing that. Probably used to monitor what I was up to I suspect.
