When I was growing up in the 1970s, hamburgers were exactly that - burgers of ham. But now, everything is a BEEFburger. I do miss the taste of hamburgers but cannot seem to source them anywhere. Any knowledge of sales points for hamburgers? And no, I don't really want to start making them myself before that suggestion surfaces.

Yes I remember them too and having the same quest as u to find them lol.... used to get them from frozen stores... would be HAMburgers and BEEFburgers packed next to each other.... albeit the ham ones wer not 100% ham but rather a mix of 60% ham 40% beef or ther abouts.... I preferred the taste of hamburgers but nowadays hamburgers/beefburgers are all just beef...

I don't think I have ever seen a hamburger actually made of ham.
^^as Tilly....never seen them.
Asda do a bacon grill, similar to Spam, that fries up a treat and brings back memories of rat packs if that appeals.
I fear you are mistaken. The name has nothing to do with ham, it derives frm the city of Hamburg where they originated. They were always beefburgers.
I prefer venison or wild boar burgers, much less fat and more flavour.
...or, from the American "hamburg steak".....made from ground beef.
Yes most definitely they are always made from beef. We have a proper NYC burger Joint just up the road from where I live and they brag about their beef content in the Hamburgers lol :)
//it derives from the city of Hamburg where they originated.//

indeed. similarly, frankfurters, and berliners (which JFK famously described himself as....)
Some butchers make them too but usually in combination with something else. Apple is the most common I've seen, but occasionally with tomato or cheese.

To those people answering about the origin of the name - I know the derivation of the word but that does not alter the fact that there were HAMburgers available when I grew up.
You could always make your own.
GSD4ME, I grew up around the same time and the only HAMburgers I remember seeing were disgusting things that came in a tin!
Much like these I would guess:

https://groceries.asda.com/product/hot-meats-meals-chilli/westlers-4-burgers-in-onion-gravy/910001058412

I wonder if pork doesn't last long enough.
yes. Westler's. often sold on street stalls.
Hamburgers have always been beef, the name comes from their city of origin, Hamburg.
pretty sure the hamburgers of your youth actually had beef in, not ham, unless you lived in an unusually pigocentric town. Like frankfurters, they're named after the German town they came from.
There's a bar/restaurant on the Arenal promenade in Javea, Costa Blanca that serves 'hamburguers' that seem to be pig based.

Possibly not handy for you but if you're ever in the area.....
Douglas, maybe a wealthy burgher could do home delivery?
Ich bin ein hamburger !

Maybe not go the whole hog. Try for a porkburger ?
