My daughter is vegan and she tells everyone to just give her the veg. She sorts out her own protein when she gets home.
If people insist, she's happy with a veggie burger.
I wouldn't be so rude as to ask for an alternative, I'd make do with the veg. & Yorkshire pud..I was raised to eat what someone had been kind enough to provide for me - even if I didn't like it. Oh, the salads I forced down as a kid!
just the fava beans and the nice Chianti without the long pork perhaps ... seriously, though, is it worth asking guests in advance? Many of them will have been in this situation before and may have simple requests for hostesses.
I would buy an alternative to the beef. Stuffed mushroom or nut roast. However, if I went to their house, as a meat eater, I would expect them to accommodate me!
As it’s polite to ask if everyone is able to rat what is served I would provide an alternative either a nut roast or cutlets nothing too time consuming and that can be served with the other sides
And what if they don't eat nuts?
I have to admit that nut roasts sound straight out of the 70s.
I'd probably want something based on dairy or eggs. Something like Shakshuka.
This vegetarian Wellington looks good...and other guests might also try it.
There are literally thousands of great meat-free recipes and as many alternatives to be found at your local supermarket. I'm no vegetablist, but perhaps the better idea would be to cook a meat-free meal for all (maybe not even telling the carnivores) and see what they think?
its already an enormous effort to cook a roast dinner, so i was sort of wondering if a couple of veggie sausages, or mushrooms and blue cheese would go with the rest of a roast dinner
