For the most, my experience, of BBQs are charcoaled good meat ruined and inedible. I would sooner cook in and eat it outside (flies and wasps permitting)I have only been to one BBQ where my hosts are consistently good at it and carefully marinade the meat overnight. Hasn't been warm enough for me yet in any case.

This is the closest I will get to alfresco cooking. I have a Gas BBQ but rarely use it. We sat down to eat this and were invaded by swarms of flies so ended up eating inside in any case. :-(

//but charcoal takes more planning.//
I like to think I am a cook and not an engine room stoker. Shovelling burning coals around and waiting for white ash to arrive before shifting meat about is not my idea of fun, especially with mess to clear up afterwards. I'll let our Mediterranean friends do that for me. They have it off to a fine art that I am yet to bother to master. Gas BBQs don't taste the same imo. Think of the smoke and burning rainforests that produce charcoal!
