If you can make it exactly the same as my mother did, please do so and send it to me.

By post, Barry? Or do you just want the recipe?
Oi! Can't you see the no parkin signs?
I just looked up the recipe and didn’t realise it has oatmeal in it, you live and learn.
Question Author
By post or hand delivered, straight out of the oven
Question Author
No oats makes it gingerbread
Would that be the Yorkshire Parkin or the Lancashire Parkin?
Question Author
My mother’s Parkin. Maybe it’s the Birmingham version
it really is parkin time of year coming (to me it's associated with bonfire night)
I don't understand why you don't see it more often - it's lovely AND lasts for ages (well it doesnt last long in my house!)

It does last for ages. My mother always put molasses in it. Whenever my children went camping with the Guides and Scouts she would give them a huge tin full for the midnight feasts.
It sounds a bit like the Maryland gingerbread my mum made...and then by me too. Full of spices, dark brown sugar, and molasses. Brings back memories.
Ps...looking at Parkin recipes, I also used black treacle.
So maybe the American version has its roots in Yorkshire.
