Whatever happened to them?  Big, white, mild onions usually eaten raw with salads, or cheese and biscuits.  My mother used to soak them sliced in vinegar and eat them for supper.

Every greengrocer and supermarket used to sell them.

Costco sells a pack of 6 large white onions – I’m not sure of their nationality though.

I buy three large white onions in a net, not sure if they're Spanish or any other nationality but they seem similar.

So do I Vagus - from Sainsbury's. They are very mild and sweet. I use them to make white onion soup.

Mine are also Sainsbury’s, Toorak.

I love a cheese and onion sandwich, these onions hit the spot without burning my mouth 😮‍💨

Aldi sell them occasionly. Nice big ones!

As an altenative, I love those Italian cipollini, when fresh, delicious and sweet - and I can't find them down here in deepest Cornwall or 'Cornovaglia' as we are known as over there.

I do wish they wouldn't put them in stupid netting!

I don't buy anything in those horrible, polluting nets.

I agree, Tilly, I went into the local Coop the other day to buy a single red onion - and now it's 'three in a net' and no single ones. I don't need three!

I used to soak them in vinegar as well, my mum always did if we were having salad. I love the smell of them and when they've been soaking a couple of days, great in cheese sandwiches.

Are the nets worse than plastic bags?
I can't buy large onions loose.

Dunno about Spanish ones. I know we don't seem to find strong ones sold these days.

The smaller ones I can buy loose are far stronger.

In the fridge door

Feel free to ignore my post. 🙄

Suitably ignored 🫣

I grow my own - one of the easiest crops to grow in your garden.

Can I fit them on my window sill?

I tried growing onions. Was convinced they must be still growing as they were so small, so left them. I think they ended up rotting over the winter period.

I grow spring onions, brown onions and leeks without problem but when I have tried to grow Spanish onions in the past they haven't been as sweet or as mild as I expected, nor got to proper size.

You're right barry, I know exactly the ones; large, and very mild, delicious in sandwiches, especially with cheese.

I haven't been able to find them anywhere, neither here nor on the UK 😪
