I can understand them being a little expensive, after all if you are rearing / feeding and generally looking after turkeys all year round just for one or two events per year then theres a price to pay for that committment. But having it ready cooked is a price I wouldnt pay.

Maybe it's a regional thing, crowns have always been on the bone for me.

What is crowning the turkey?

A turkey crown is the breast of the bird still attached to the bone, with the legs and wings removed. A crown is perfect if you have fewer people to feed or guests who all like white meat.

I think Barry all crowns were supplied bone in when they first started to sell them, then they went a step further. Some cheaper stores still do supply with bone in.

Bone in doesn't necessarily mean cheaper.  Meat always tastes better cooked on the bone.

If it's not on the bone it's just boneless turkey breast to me.

The idea is I think that there's no dark meat and no fatty or slimy unsavoury bits clinging on.  It's all beautiful, lean, edible meat.  Jamie Oliver slices his differently - across the breast rather than down it.  I tried it and it really works.

No, I wouldn't.  But if I was short of time or was poorly, I'd consider it.

I make my own stuffing using my great grandmother's recipe and it is the only stuffing my family will eat.  I know how to deal with a bird so it is flavoursome and moist.  And I always make my own gravy.  Our cockerel (which is around 10lbs) will cost about £60.  It will feed 7 on Christmas Day (plus 2 helpful feline Christmas interior decorators - they made the downstairs loo look like a snow globe and then destroyed a feather pillow yesterday).  And then it will do us on 27th and 28th and I shall also make stock from the bones and bits.

Its goes without saying M&S present some very good food, but to be honesty its not really value for money. They have however produced some very good balace sheets this year so far, but Christmas sales are always the make or break for them along with other retailers. I still think if they put more effort into providing more food for the masses, ( affordable) they would increase sales even more so.
