I wouldn't have thought so.

You should be able to leave the mixture in a bowl covered with cling film in the fridge then mix it up tomorrow before putting it in the tin, but wait to see what others say JJ.

I wouldn't.  If you leave it in the fridge it will be very cold when it goes in the oven.  Regardless of the temperature I don't think it would rise as well and I expect it would be denser than ideal.

Lots of people on the web say it's okay for up to 48 hours in the fridge but I wouldn't do it.

Barry, what if it was left out at room temperature and then given a good mix?

I wouldn't do it because I don't think it would be light and fluffy enough.

No, I still wouldn't - milk, butter and eggs left at room temperature doesn't fill me with confidence.

It doesn't take long to make a sponge batter.  Weight out the dry ingredients and prepare the tins the day before, assuming you use parchment paper that will shave off a couple of minutes.  Probably your batter will be done by the time your oven heats up
